24 April 2010 Henk Veen opening of exposition party.
Henk Veen, a real Amsterdammer, gets his inspiration from the life that he lived on the streets of Amsterdam . Through this experience, his paintings are quite recognizable and confronting. He tries to set the comical, sensitive and often hard reality into colour on canvas.

2 April 2010, Gallery W139, Amsterdam, Doktor Faustus
From Monday 1 February until Friday 2 April the walls of W139 are painted with scenes, images and characters from Thomas Mann’s novel Doctor Faustus. On 12 February 1949 Mann wrote to Albert Oppenheimer: “The hero of the novel, Leverkühn, is an unusually prideful, distant and gifted individual, far too clever for the arts, but who nonetheless fulfils a creative urge and with this, requires unrestraint which, in the idealised framework of the book, can be delivered only by evil. From a more political perspective, his demise mirrors the intoxication of the people by Fascism.”
A novel of great complexity, Doctor Faustus is also a treatise on how art and, with it, the artist, has become autonomous. How it broke away from religious and collective bounds to become a domain accessible only to the isolated individual and how, in this state of permanent self-reflection, erodes the artist’s creative powers...more Gallery W139

The secret’s out!
We’re dropping the mic and picking up the pens to uncover the best street artists around the world. Taking place in the darkest corners of the underground, we uncap the creativity of 16 cities and see who’s got the skills to scribble their way to the winning title.
Come watch Cardiff and Amsterdam draw it out in a live art battle at Sid Lee on the 27th of March. Can the blokes of Great Britain school the original Sin City on their own funky smelling turf?
Come see for yourself.
It’s war!
No właśnie – co?
Kupiec wenecki w listopadzie 1588 roku? I ludzie to zauważyli, a potem rozgłaszali i rozgłaszali, aż wiedział o tym cały świat? czytaj dalej
Vocalist Billy Kulke bears a strong physical resemblance to Robert Plant. Originally from Liverpool, Billy came to London in the 80's, and had considerable success with his own band, touring extensively throughout Europe with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Roger Daltrey, Saxon Tea Party, Giantand Uriah Heep, amongst others.
Billy is also the voice of The Led Zeppelin Project, performing classical Led Zeppelin with the 65 piece full orchestration of Led Zep music by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, in New Zealand.
Even Robert Plant said it was like watching himself onstage when he attended a Letz Zep performance.

Riina Hänninen's death, destruction and resurrection. Riina Hänninen was an artist who lived in the 21st century. She was raised in the middle of the recession in Finland, in a small town full of alcoholism, unemployment and social exclusion. This young girl had many names, and she could not write or count properly. She had an appointment reserved for a social welfare officer, but by mistake she was accepted by a favoured art institution. In this institution, she first flourished until the increased control over the people resulted in everyone searching potentially dangerous people among those who were different, weird and abnormal. Her paintings became objects of fear and deranged personality. The girl was given more names; the mass murderer, the school murderer, attention seeker, fake artist, insane, monster. The place that used to be considered free, became a prison. Art became a conservative, corrupted business institution. She didn’t belong there anymore; she had to belong only among the mentally insane and forgotten. Riina saw the people's hypocrisy, weakness and she opened her eyes again in isolation and worthlessness. She saw the Abyss and how infinite it was. She realized how her paintings had been trying to express it, but she always thought it was just the darkness of mind. The Abyss had been a constant presence. We could fall into it, lose the borders or search it with carefulness. It is within each one of us, the fight between the restrictions of society, morality and humanity. The Abyss has been with us since the beginning of consciousness, the question of reality, life and its purpose. In Abyss live all the dreaded words, monsters, and visions. Her expression was restricted, the fear was planted on her, the fear that you shouldn’t speak about the Abyss because society needs people to work as machines, not realizing their true nature. But Hänninen wanted to know the answers to all the questions that people were afraid to ask.
These paintings are made in isolation process by Hänninen in a small dark room of the attic in the border of Amsterdam’s winter sky.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Finnish government to keep people silent and happy with antidepressive pills.
The strange & surreal case of Riina Hanninen drew our attention ...
Are we caught in a time warp that brought us straight into pre-2nd-world-war era,
when the Nazis decided which art had to be forbidden and the makers criminalized.
OR are we thrown back even further in history ...
back to the dark days of the Inquisition when people,
mostly women, could be accused of and condemned for ...
whatever really ... ?
Come and see the work and meet the person who recently was Persona non grata ... on trial for her art in ... 2009!
Artist's Comments: If someday I will have to change the frames again to my paintings I will piss expensive wine to all nations of the world.
